About

Storms and Photography are a life long passion with me. I was hooked at a very young age and spent countless hours watching every storm within sight. Lightning was a particularly fascinating attraction that in later years would become my favorite and most challenging subject. I've been at it ever since and though I have experienced many different kinds of storms in North America, lightning and thunderstorms on the Great Plains are my main focus.
My interest in photography started very early with my Dad and his 35mm camera. My interest grew and at about age 8, I started experimenting with homebrew photography. Armed with a library book, a homemade pinhole camera, and some drugstore chemicals, I managed my first faint image on a sheet of film. In later years, I always had my own darkroom to process and print my pictures. In the mid '90s, digital came along, so I sold my film gear along with the darkroom equipment and dove head first into digital.
Denver, Colorado has always been home and after college and military service, I returned to work in the communications industries. In 1985, I started my own company, Walton Labs, which did industrial photography, imaging, and consulting work in the communications industry.
I have actively chased lightning and thunderstorms for over 35 years and continue to chase with a passion. I enjoy the many challenges and have a lot more to learn about thunderstorms, lightning, and the art of photographing and producing images of these spectacular events.
My greatest joy comes from sharing my images and experiences from photographing lightning and thunderstorms, and I hope you enjoy browsing this site.
